Building skills for African GIBA research
As GIBA-A launches and grows, we aspire to develop a training programme that helps researchers work across disciplines and strengthen gut-immune-brain axis research across Africa.
There are currently no active GIBA-A training initiatives.
Training priorities will be developed with network members. Confirmed opportunities will be announced as the programme takes shape.
Planned areas of training
Essential concepts
Build understanding of the gut, immune system and brain, and the biological pathways that connect them. Introductory sessions would help researchers engage with disciplines beyond their own.
Data analysis
Develop skills in analysing, integrating and interpreting data relevant to interdisciplinary gut-immune-brain axis research.
Experimental techniques
Introduce research methods and practical approaches used to investigate the gut-immune-brain axis, with attention to their application in African settings.
Career development
Support researchers, particularly those at early career stages, through mentorship, collaborative research skills and opportunities to learn from others across the network.
How training could be delivered
We hope to offer a mix of online, in-person and hybrid activities. These could include webinars, introductory courses and practical workshops, with formats shaped by member priorities and available
